FCXII: Duke Lovin' at the Lake

I spent this past weekend at Raegan’s lake house in Grapeland, TX. This was Camp Duke's second, and final, road trip and it was absolutely amazing. We all arrived on Friday evening and enjoyed a tasty spaghetti dinner prepared by her sweet family. After we finished dinner, we all headed towards the lake. Some people swam and some people sang, but I simply sat on the dock and watched the sunset as I listened to the strum of the guitar. There is something about a lake that is just so peaceful. All of Camp Duke gradually migrated towards the dock and we all enjoyed great company and even greater conversation. We played the infamous hot seat game for several hours and learned so much about each another. After 1 am, we headed back towards the house. I played a game of Never Have I Ever with M&M’s and invented a new game called That Person. As our group continued to split up, I surprisingly stayed awake with the later crew. We laughed, talked, and even met some locals. It was definitely some quality bonding time with camp and the moment I realized just how close we have become. The next day, we woke up to the smell of Byron’s breakfast casserole dish. We all ate a quick breakfast together and headed straight for the lake. We chilled on some massive floats and took part in some casual recreational activities. There were a few footballs being thrown around and lots of noodles floating around. The sun was shining bright and it was a perfect day spent out on the lake. Raegan’s Mom and Aunt prepared some tasty fried chicken and cheesy potatoes for lunch. After lunch, there were epic videos made displaying Camp Duke’s raw talent. Some people napped on the hammocks, talked on the porch, played in the lake, and chilled on the dock. In the later afternoon, the storm blew in and forced us into the house. We showered, got ready for dinner, and watched the Devil Wears Prada. In the evening, we headed to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner. Tortilla soup wasn’t the best choice and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The entire weekend was definitely a change of pace from our road trip to San Antonio. They were both SO much fun and simply unforgettable. However, there was much more down time for deep conversation this weekend. I realized just how much I love each and every one of them. We are all very unique, but somehow we fit together perfectly. We missed all of the people that weren’t able to come, but I had a blast with everyone that was there. Fish Camp is only weeks away… there is so much to do and so much excitement at Texas A&M. I am blessed to be a part of Camp Duke and I can’t wait to see how our strong bond reflects at Lakeview! A huge THANK YOU to Raegan for opening up her lake house and her family for providing incredible hospitality all weekend!!
