Up, Up, and Away

Tri-Delta had it's first date party of the year last night! The theme was Up, Up, and Away and I asked my friend, D.J. Cieply, to come as my date. Above is a picture of the sign that I made for him and below is the poem that I wrote to him.

I still can’t believe that we met at Convocation
You told me your name, and I ranted on and on about graduation.
You lent me a piece of gum,
While we sat through the bird presentation that was very dumb.
We talked about our future in Mays
I never imagined we’d be friends in the coming days.
The next morning was the start of our college years.
New classes, new faces, and so many fears
Luckily, I heard you holler my name.
Who would have guessed our geology class would be the same?
We sat together in the front row and our friendship officially began.
It seemed like us meeting was a part of a bigger plan.
Your favorite book was Crazy Love,
And all growing up I could have found you wearing a baseball glove.
Every day in Geology we get so bored,
But at the end of the day we both love the Lord.
You are one of the most genuine guys that I know,
And to my first Tri-Delta date party I want you to go.
The theme is Up, Up, and Away
Unfortunately, it falls on your birthday.
It’s Tuesday, September 27th from ten until two,
If you don’t want to go, that’ll have to do.
It’s totally up to you to determine your fate,
But, D.J. Cieply, I think you’d be the most fun date!

And so there it is folks, D.J. Cieply was the first guy I ever took to a date party and it was his birthday! We went to dinner with a large group of Tri-Delts and their dates at Koppe Bridge. Afterwards, we ate a cookie cake complete with candles, a birthday hat, and the birthday song. I tried my best to make his day as special as possible considering he agreed to come to my sorority event. The theme was Up, Up, and Away, so we dressed up as Superwoman and Clark Kent. Other people were dressed as skydivers, planets, angels, travelers, flight attendants, "Up" characters, flying pigs, rollercoasters, Santa & the reindeer, the cloud and silver lining, Peter Pan & Wendy, Harry Potter, and plenty more. Tri-Delta rented out Hurricane Harry's and we had a massive dance party. I was the first one to step on the dance floor and I don't think I ever came off of it. We all were dancing crazy and having a blast! I am so thankful that D.J. was able to come, celebrate his birthday, and get his dancin' on. He really was the most fun date! Tri-Delta's Up, Up, and Away Victory Party was a total success and I am looking forward to many more events.  There was so much Delta Lovin' in one place!

It's Party Time!

This weekend was by far the best weekend to date in college. Jason and Lauren came into town on Thursday Night. They brought me several birthday presents and a ton of energy. We met up with some people for dinner and went out on the town. This was Jason’s first time to return to College Station since he graduated in December. We hung out with several of his friends on Northgate and had the time of our life. The conversations in the car ride are simply unforgettable and the memories created were absolutely priceless. I spent the day with Lauren and Jason walking through campus, eating lunch at Wehner, and shopping at the Aggie tent sales. Friday night, the rest of the family came into town. I was only able to see them for a half an hour because I had my mandatory MSC FISH meeting. After the meeting, I met up with the entire gang. I was definitely afraid of having a FOMO- Fear Of Missing Out. Friday night was a blast! I absolutely love all of Jason’s friends from college. On Saturday, we had the A&M vs. OSU Tailgate. It was a party all day long! I got to see Michelle Roche for the first time since I have become a member of Tri-Delta. This girl was the reason that I became a Tri-Delt, so this was beyond exciting! Keep in mind… I had ZERO voice by this point. I didn’t feel well while I was in the hot sun at the game and I knew I was on the verge of illness. Taking my ability to speak away was almost worse than taking my eye sight away. I left the game early and went to the hotel with my precious baby sister, Shannon. We put on our pajamas and watched OSU defeat the Aggies 30-29. It was a sad, sad day in Aggieland. In the midst of our grief for the Ags, we popped in the new movie Bridesmaids and laughed at that instead. This weekend was filled with family, tailgating, football, food, and too much fun. I couldn’t be more thankful for my amazing family and time I got to spend with them in College Station. I am exhausted, sick, and slightly overwhelmed, but I wouldn’t take a single moment back. It was party time this weekend… every last minute of it!

MSC FISH

On Sunday, I was accepted into MSC FISH! FISH is a FLO on campus that stands for Freshmen In Service and Hosting. My brother, Jason, was in FLiP and I had always assumed that I would follow in his footsteps. However, a week ago he told me that I would like FISH better. We had to preference our FLO’s in order and since I couldn’t decide between the two, I drew them from a hat.
1. MSC FISH
2. FLiP
3. Fish Aides
Luckily, I was selected for MSC Fish and it couldn’t feel like a more perfect fit. On Wednesday, we had our first official meeting and were assigned to our schools. My school’s name is TAP (Toates’ Angsty Platypi) and our color is neon green. We went on a scavenger hunt throughout campus and learned about some of our fellow FISH. On Friday, we had a mandatory meeting and lock-in. We learned all of the rules, grubbed on some pizza, and were assigned into our committees. I am apart of the Kyle Field Day Committee (KFD), which was by far my first choice! I couldn’t be more thankful for being a chosen member of MSC FISH 2011-2012 and I can’t wait to see what’s in store!

A&M vs. Idaho

Tonight I went to the A&M vs. Idaho game with my Tri-Delta sisters! We hopped from one tailgate to the next all afternoon and snagged some free food. We didn’t know any of the guys in Bucs or Beta, but stopped by both tents. There is something special about Aggieland on game days. The whole town is packed with alumni, kids, students, friends, families, and plenty of fans. All of the hotels are completely booked and the streets are flooded with maroon. It seems as though College Station is the hot spot for vacationing nowadays. After taking plenty of pictures and socializing at the tailgates, I headed into the stadium. I had a blast getting to know some new Tri-Delta girls as we watched Ags beat the hell outta Idaho! If we’re being honest, it is exhausting standing as the 12th man. But at the end of the day, I love some Aggie Football!!!

Nineteen

This weekend, I celebrated my nineteenth birthday in College Station after my first overwhelmingly busy week of school! First college test, interviews for several FLOS, and excess hours spent in Evans library. I kicked off the weekend on Thursday night with a bunch of my Tri-Delt sisters. We went to bible study at “The Dollhouse” and then went dancing at the Hall! My friend Becca’s birthday was on the 15th, so we celebrated her birthday until midnight and then celebrated mine on the 16th. They gave us each a shout out on the loud speaker and it was the perfect way to start off my birthday…Two-steppin’ to country music, wobbling on the dance floor, and screaming the Aggie War Hymn. The next morning, I woke up to a huge sign that my roommate, Megan, had hung up for me. This was my first birthday ever to be away from home and not eat breakfast off of our traditional birthday plate. Instead of tasty waffles and yummy fruit, I grabbed a protein bar and went to Geology. It was definitely a different experience walking through campus on your birthday, instead of walking through the halls of Austin High School. After class, I went to the library to get some reading done and my phone wouldn’t quit blowing up. My Mom and Katy both called wishing me a happy birthday, and every single person in the library heard them screaming from the other end of the telephone line. So embarrassing. My family mailed me the best birthday package of all time. It was filled with brownies, the most thoughtful and corky gifts, and a painted frame from Shan Shan. It made me smile, a lot! Facebook certainly makes you feel like a celebrity on your birthday and I was so thankful for all of the sweet wishes. I spent the day with Katy and Crysta shopping and having lunch at Newks! In the evening, I went to my birthday dinner at Chuy’s that was planned by some of my favorite Tri-Delts. The sweet girls that came were Jayma Mickler, Madeline Corley, Madelyn Wilson, Erin Briers, Hailey Hunter, and of course, Katy Lowery! We ate yummy Mexican food and then I got serenated in song form by a random stranger. He came up to me and sang “Happy Birthday." Truth be told… His voice wasn’t half bad! We took lots of pictures and had a great time! I am so thankful for each and every one of those girls. They made my birthday very special even though we’ve only known each other for a short period of time. After dinner, we continued to celebrate my first birthday in College Station. I couldn’t have asked for better friends or a better town to celebrate in. Thanks and Gig ‘Em!
